The NBA has appointed Hall of Fame player Joe Dumars as the new Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations. He will start on May 9 and will report to Byron Spruell, President of Basketball Operations.
The NBA announced today that Joe Dumars, a Hall of Fame player, distinguished team executive and NBA champion with more than 30 years of experience in the league, has been appointed Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

Dumars, a former NBA champion with the Pistons, served as an executive and President of Basketball Operations where he built a contending and championship team. Most recently, he joined the Sacramento Kings as an executive and their Chief Strategy Officer.
In the league offices, Dumars will oversee all basketball operations, including the development and interpretations of playing rules, conducts, and disciplines, as well as policies and procedures.
“Joe’s extensive track record of accomplishment as an NBA player and team executive and the leadership and expertise that he has demonstrated in various roles make him a natural fit to drive efforts to further enhance the game,” said Spruell in a statement. “As a respected longtime member of the NBA family, Joe has developed strong relationships across the league that will set the foundation for success in his new position.”
As part of his experience, Dumars was also the President of the Basketball Division for Independent Sports & Entertainment, an integrated sports, media, entertainment and management company.
