All good things must come to an end. After a 37-year run with CBS Sports, Jim Nantz has announced that he will call his last Final Four matchup this spring.
“It is time with two young children and an older daughter that I spend more time at home,” Nantz told Andrew Marchand of the New York Post.
“Daddy needs to be home.”
Nantz has contributed to CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament since 1986. Five years later, he began calling the Final Four for CBS. More than 30 years later, he will call it quits in the city where it all started. In 2023, the NCAA will host the men’s Final Four in Houston, a city where Nantz earned an undergraduate degree.
While Nantz will leave the Final Four behind, he will not cut ties with CBS Sports completely. He will continue to call NFL games and key golf tournaments. In his absence, Ian Eagle will begin calling Final Four matchups on CBS. The Syracuse University product has called NBA, NFL and college basketball games for CBS, TNT and TBS.
The 2023 Division I Men’s Basketball Final Four will be held at NRG Stadium in Houston on April 1-3, 2023.
