The New York Mets have dealt closer Jeurys Familia to the Oakland Athletics for two prospects and international pool money. The trade comes just hours after the trade talks regarding Familia were reported. This trade also marks the second reliever to be dealt as the deadline approaches with the San Diego Padres dealing Brad Hand to the Cleveland Indians yesterday.

The prospects that were sent to the Mets are pitcher Bobby Wahl and Infielder Will Toffey. Through 2018 Wahl has an ERA of 2.27 and has appeared in 34 games for the Athletics Triple-A affiliate the Nashville Sounds. Toffey has spent 2018 with the Athletics High-A affiliate the Stockton Ports and accumulated a slash line of .244/.358/.384 through 48 games. The Mets have also received $1 million towards international pool money.
The Athletics acquired Familia who has been the closer and has been effective for the Mets during the 2018 season. Familia has appeared in 40 games in 2018, he has closed out 17 games with an ERA of 2.88 while also striking out 43 batters through 40.2 innings. The Mets are also going to pay for all of Familia’s remaining salary.
