Undefeated boxer Jermall Charlo emerged victorious after ending his 29-month layoff. Accompanied by Houston’s own Maxo Kream, the WBC Middleweight Champion used a methodical, powerful style in the ring to outpoint Jose Benavidez Jr. Still, Benavidez Jr.’s grit and toughness helped him push through to the final bell. Ultimately, it was not enough as all three judges delivered the following scores in his favor: 100-90, 99-91 and 98-92.
With the win, Charlo improves his professional record to 33-0 with 22 knockouts. While the Houston native did indicate that he’d like to remain at relatively the same weight moving forward and remain active, he did not offer any assessment of his performance or name any potential opponents he’d like to get in the ring with.
If Charlo elects to stay north of the 160-point division, he may find himself in the ring with the likes of Demetrius Andrade, Caleb Plant or David Morrell. In the event he’d like to return to the middleweight division, he could square off with Carlos Adames, Erislandy Lara or Maciej Sul?cki.
