Change is coming to the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. Adam Schefter of ESPN has revealed that Jeff Saturday will become the interim head coach of the Indianapolis Colts.
“Jeff Saturday was in Indianapolis last weekend with a group of former teammates, who were there to celebrate Tarik Glenn’s induction into the Colts Ring of Honor. Now Saturday will return as the Colts’ interim HC,” Schefter tweeted on Monday afternoon.
Jeff Saturday is no stranger to the city of Indianapolis, Indiana. After spending a few months with the Baltimore Ravens in 1998, Saturday joined the Colts franchise in 1999. He would end up spending more than a decade with the Colts before moving on to play one season with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers. The Georgia native finished his NFL career with six appearances in the Pro Bowl, two NFL All-Pro selections and a Super Bowl title.
Things have changed a bit since Jeff Saturday was blocking for Peyton Manning in Indianapolis. The Colts have not won a playoff game in nearly four years. This season, Indianapolis is off to a 3-5-1 start with two losses of more than 20 points. The franchise cut ties with former head coach Frank Reich earlier today, opening the door for Saturday to step in as the interim head coach.
On Sunday, the Colts will travel to Allegiant Stadium for a 4:05 p.m. EST kickoff with the Las Vegas Raiders.
