Senator Marco Rubio, you’re fired! Senator Tim Scott, you’re fired! Governor Doug Burgum, you’re fired! However, Senator J.D. Vance, you’re hired! After months of deliberation, former President Donald Trump has selected Senator J.D. Vance to be his running mate heading into Election Day. The former President announced his decision as the Republican National Committee opened up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
“After lengthy deliberation and thought, and considering the tremendous talents of many others, I have decided that the person best suited to assume the position of Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” the former reality show host wrote on Truth Social.
“J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association. J.D.’s book, “Hillbilly Elegy,” became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance, and now, during the Campaign, will be strongly focused on the people he fought so brilliantly for, the American Workers and Farmers in Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Minnesota, and far beyond.”
Vance may be Trump’s ideal running mate, but many voters seem to think otherwise. A collection of snap polls from YouGov has found that only 27% of voters feel Vance is the “best” or even a “good” choice for Vice President. Furthermore, 51% of poll participants have “unfavorable” or “very unfavorable” opinions of the Senator.
The Senator opened up as Trump’s running mate by delivering remarks during the opening night of the Republican National Convention. His next test will likely come within the next two months as he prepares to debate Vice President Kamala Harris. Both campaigns have agreed to a vice presidential debate, but they have not yet come to an agreement regarding the network, date or location.
