After he was drafted first overall by the Los Angeles Rams in the 2016 NFL Draft, quarterback Jared Goff knew he had sky-high expectations to reach right away. Goff has certainly been everything the Rams could’ve hoped, as the California product has led the Rams to two straight playoff appearances including a trip to the Super Bowl just last season.
Even though Goff is still under his rookie contract, there were rumblings of the two sides agreeing on an extension as early as this offseason. Those rumors officially came to fruition earlier this week, as ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that Goff has agreed to a four-year extension worth up to $34 million. Goff is now under contract with LA through 2024.

Compensation update: Rams are giving QB Jared Goff a four-year, $134 million extension that includes an NFL-record $110 million guaranteed, per source. It ties him to LA through 2024 season.

This was obviously a no-brainer deal that the Rams knew they had to get done at some point. With the way the NFL free agency market works, it makes sense for them to get Goff’s extension out of the way earlier instead of waiting until next offseason.
As is typically the case with the latest contract at a certain position, Jared Goff is now the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL, just topping out Carson Wentz’ deal with the Eagles. With the success Goff has enjoyed as the Rams leader under stellar young head coach Sean McVay, it’s clear that they finally have their franchise signal-caller for years to come.
