The Detriot Lions have released linebacker Jamie Collins after failing to find a trade partner after week 3 of the NFL season. Moving on to week 4 and beyond the Lions will look to younger linebackers on their roster. Collins was considered a great free agent acquisition by the team, but things can quickly change in the NFL. The veteran linebacker will likely land with a team fairly quickly and could be starting as early as week 4. Detriot is known for head-scratching decisions and this is on par with the organization.
The #Lions waited through the Sunday and Monday games to see if a team’s need at LB increased. It didn’t. They cut Collins, once a prize FA acquisition. https://t.co/uYCZ7NOssM

Now that he has been released, Jamie Collins can sign with another team immediately.
Collins is making a fully guaranteed $8.8M total from Detroit this year ($5M bonus, $3.8M salary).
Collins can now prioritize fit and familiarity when looking for a new home.

The Lions ended up paying Jamie Collins millions of dollars this season for less than a quarter of a season. To make matters worse they get no return on his value. The decision is questionable, but obviously, the team was ready to move on from the veteran linebacker. Detriot currently sits at 0-3 with little hope at seriously bouncing back this season. Collins can now head to a team he views as a contending team.
Dan Campbell said this week the Lions have suitors for a Jamie Collins trade.

The Lions stated they had suitors for Jamie Collins and implied that was why they were seeking a trade. Where did these suitors go and why was the answer to release him if that fell apart? Just another day in the chaotic life of the Detriot Lions organization.
