Jamaine Ortiz knocked out Sulai Segawa in the first fight of the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. undercard. Heading into the seventh round, Ortiz had pulled ahead in the fight and was able to send Segawa to the canvas with a shot to the liver. With approximately 30 seconds left in the seventh round, Ortiz capitalized on his big shot to Segawa’s liver with a flurry of body shots. After landing three more thunderous shots, the referee stepped into stop the fight.
With tonight’s victory, Ortiz inches closer towards a title shot. He improved to 14-0 with eight knockouts. In recent fights, Ortiz has improved his ability to finish with four knockouts in his last six fights.
Meanwhile, Segawa will return to the drawing board. After taking this fight on short notice, he suffers his first knockout loss. Falling to 13-3-1, the Ugandan fighter will look to rebound with a bout in 2021.
Moving forward, the Tyson-Jones Jr. undercard will feature Badou Jack and Blake McKernan at light heavyweight. Jack is looking to win and move on to a potential bout with Jean Pascal.
