Idris Elba’s semi-autobiographical series, In the Long Run, has been picked up by Starz for a US run. The first season of the series premiered in the UK last year to positive reviews. Starz’ deal reportedly includes the first and upcoming second seasons, as well as a Christmas special.
Written by Elba and Grace Ofori-Attah, In the Long Run, tells the story of the mostly well-mannered Easmon family. They left Sierra Leone 13 years ago to live in London and have lived a relatively quiet, humble life since then. Their quiet lifestyle is turned upside down in 1985 when their young, rambunctious relative Valentine moves in looking to establish a life for himself in the UK. Elba also stars in the series with Bill Bailey, Kellie Shirley, Jimmy Akingbola and Mattie Boys

Elba appeared earlier this year in the Fast & Furious spin-off, Hobbs & Shaw opposite Dwyane ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Jason Statham. He’s set to star next in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad. Originally he was going to play Deadshot in that film but has since been shifted to a different, unspecified role. He was also set to appear alongside Andy Serkis in Fox’s Mouse Guard adaptation. However, Disney scrapped that project shortly after the Disney/Fox merger went through.
In the Long Run season 1 will premiere on Starz November 1st. Season 2 will start on December 6th, followed by a Christmas special on December 20th.
