For months, many have openly discussed the growing tension between Latto and Ice Spice. Most recently, the two performed tracks aimed at each other during the 2024 BET Awards in Los Angeles, California. However, one of the combatants doesn’t believe the feud between the two is all that intense.
“I feel like if we ever spoke and I asked her ‘What’s the issue?’ it’d be like a blank stare. It’d really be no issue whatsoever. Especially from me,” Ice Spice told Rolling Stone when asked about the battle between the two.
“I can understand a friendly competition, but I just feel like at this point it’s a joke that she’s just dragged out, and it’s just not even funny. Like, bro, ‘Think U the S—t’ is from January. You’re going to post a piece of shit cake to announce something that’s good news for you? But it is kind of a compliment because you’re taking something that’s supposed to be a fun moment for you and you’re making it about me … again.”
The perceived feud between the two stems back to late January of last year. During an interview with Billboard, Latto was asked to complete the lyrics to an Ice Spice song, but she was unable to do so. As a result, some fans felt she was intentionally attempting to slight the New York native. Two months later, an X user posted a screenshot of a photo from Latto’s Instagram Story with the a caption that reads, “[You] posted this…so [you] are creating the narrative.” The photo in question from Latto’s Instagram Story shows the rapper bent over with her hand reaching between her legs, a pose that Ice Spice is known for doing. In response, Latto wrote, Everytime y’all accuse me of copying folks, [I’m going to] clear it up.” Months later, fans once again speculated Latto was taking shots at Ice Spice when she appeared on “Fine As Can Be” with Offset. “That n—a a munch/Yo’ bookin’ fee, ate it for lunch/I don’t do backends, need it up front/I’m big dawg, you b—s is runts/Don’t pull wigs, don’t pull stunts/I pull triggers and I pull blunts.” Many fans felt that the use of the word “munch” was a direct shot at Ice Spice.
In 2024, the feud continued when Ice Spice teased a single called “Sunday Service.” In a snippet for the song, she raps, “I just want a one-on-one/on’t know why she so nervous.” As the snippet played and Latto mouthed the words to the song, fans alleged an Ice Spice song was faintly heard in the background. Within a month, Ice Spice countered with “Think U The S—t,” a record in which she aims subliminal jabs at the “Sunday Service” rapper. Neither has named each other directly on a song, but it appears this isn’t dying down anytime soon. Latto is set to release her latest album, Sugar Honey Iced Tea, on Friday, August 9.
