Year after year, since the launch angle has become the focus the MLB has seen a massive spike in the number of home runs each year. Records are being shattered, players are saying the ball has changed, but it doesn’t matter, what’s done is done.
And what has just been done for the first time ever in the 150 years of Major League Baseball, we’ve seen four consecutive days go by with a player hitting for three home runs in a single game!
For the first time in @MLB history, there have been four consecutive days with a 3-homer game (Cano, DeJong, Cruz, Betts). pic.twitter.com/jtpcbTxmlx

Day 1:
Robinson Cano hit three home runs in a game for the first time in his 15-year career, powering Jason Vargas and the New York Mets over the San Diego Padres 5-2. Cano drove in all five runs and went 4 for 4, punctuating his performance with a pair of second-deck shots. The second baseman began the day batting just .243 with six homers in his first season with the Mets.
It was just the third three-homer game ever by a Mets player at home – Lucas Duda and Kirk Nieuwenhuis both did it in July 2015. After singling in the first, Cano hit a solo homer in the fourth. Cano lined a two-run homer off Chris Paddack in the sixth and a two-run shot in the seventh off Logan Allen.
Day 2:
Paul DeJong hit a career-high three home runs, connecting during a nine-run second inning as the Cardinals walloped the Pittsburgh Pirates 14-8 on Wednesday night. DeJong, Andrew Knizner and Paul Goldschmidt each hit two-run homers in the big burst as the Cardinals batted around against Jordan Lyles.
DeJong also hit one of St. Louis’ five doubles for a total of eight extra-base hits in the inning, tying a major league record. DeJong hit a two-run homer in the fourth and a solo shot in the eighth. He finished 4 for 4 with five RBIs and four runs.
Day 3:
Cruz hit three of Minnesota’s five homers and finished with five RBIs, helping the AL Central leaders beat the White Sox 10-3 on Thursday night. Even more impressive, Cruz went deep against All-Star Lucas Giolito on different pitches – fastball, curveball, and changeup. Cruz hit a solo drive in the first, a two-run shot in the third and another two-run homer in the fifth.
Day 4:
It’s the 6th inning, the Boston Red Sox are clobbering the New York Yankees 9-1. Former AL MVP, Mookie Betts, is 4/4 with three home runs obviously and five RBI, along with a double. They came off his first three at bats not to mention. Also in case you’re not up to date on Mookie, he is 26 years old and already has five, three-home run games, one shy of the all-time record.
At just 26 years old, @mookiebetts already has five 3-HR games, one shy of the all-time record (Sosa & Mize). pic.twitter.com/ERkLlaht4N

Only 18 players have hit four in a game in the history of the game of baseball. Betts is looking to make history and keep the tradition, the only question that remains is, will the streak continue tomorrow?
