Within the last few years, there have been a number of documentaries that have examined the rise and fall of large businesses and companies. Most notably, Hulu and Netflix took a look at how quickly Fyre Fest went from being a dream music festival to a faltering business endeavor with legal consequences. Not far off, HBO examined how Elizabeth Holmes built Theranos without accomplishing much or pushing the healthcare industry forward. More recently, a number of different networks and streaming services have taken a look at how WeWork fell to its knees during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, Discovery+ is entering the game and Hillsong Church is its target.
Earlier this week, Discovery+ shared the first look at its upcoming documentary, Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed. This is far from the first time that megachurch has been accused of fostering nefarious behavior, but things are bit different when the megachurch has attracted the likes of Justin Bieber and Kevin Durant. In this exclusive production, Discovery speaks with Hillsong insiders to highlight the alleged corruption, misconduct and nefarious behavior that plagued a place that was supposed to be a safe haven for thousands of people.
“Featuring interviews with Hillsong insiders, megachurch experts and Ranin Karim, the woman whose five-month affair with celebrity senior pastor Carl Lentz led to his downfall, the series will explore the high-profile, star-studded church’s alleged exploitation, abuse and cover-ups,” the documentary’s synopsis states.
The explosive three-part docu-series will debut on March 24, 2022. Check out the trailer today.
