Katie Taylor will not fight Amanda Serrano in Ireland on May 20, 2023, but she may look to fight another champion from a different weight class. In a recent interview, Katie Taylor’s lead promoter, Eddie Hearn, said Chantelle Cameron and Alycia Baumgardner remain potential opponents for Taylor if she decides to fight in Ireland on May 20, 2023.
“We’re looking at that homecoming,” Hearn said.
“The 3Arena is available. Chantelle came back and said she wants to do it. We’ve got to agree on the money on both sides. We’re not a million miles away.”
A deal has not been finalized just yet, but Hearn is optimistic that he may be able to work out the important details of a deal with Cameron in a matter of weeks.
“But you’ve seen the reaction from that fight. It’s a tremendous fight.,” he continued.
“I think it can be a tougher fight than Amanda Serrano. Chantelle Cameron is a bigger fighter, she punches very hard. She’s believed for a very long time she wins that fight. Fair play to Katie Taylor. She’s incredible. You got Alycia Baumgardner, the undisputed champion one division below. I believe there’s a good chance we can get Taylor-Cameron over the line.”
Katie Taylor currently sits with a record of 22-0 with six knockouts to go along with her four belts in the lightweight division. Meanwhile, her potential foe, Chantelle Cameron, holds a record of 17-0 with eight knockouts. In her last bout, Cameron beat undisputed welterweight champion Jessica McCaskill in a 140-pound bout last November.
