Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson have hit a roadblock while creating their HBO drama series, The Idol.
“The Idol’s creative team continues to build, refine, and evolve their vision for the show and they have aligned on a new creative direction. The production will be adjusting its cast and crew accordingly to best serve this new approach to the series. We look forward to sharing more information soon,” a spokesperson for HBO told Deadline.
Suzanna Son and Lily-Rose Depp were set to star alongside Tesfaye while Amy Seimetz of Atlanta was expected to direct the series. Meanwhile, Joseph Epstein of Health and Wellness signed on to be the executive producer. Moving forward, it is unclear how the show’s “new creative direction” will impact the cast and crew.
