HBO has announced that they will donate $1 million to the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles Emergency COVID-19 Crisis Fund. The decision comes in light of a number of large scale entertainment events being cancelled due to the ongoing pandemic. Instead of saving the $1 million they would typically use for FYC and Emmy after-parties, they have elected to help those who are impacted by the pandemic.
“On behalf of Bob Greenblatt and myself, we are proud to make this contribution from HBO instead of using it for our traditional Emmy party and FYC events,” HBO Programming President Casey Bloys said.
“I am tremendously proud of all of our shows in Emmy contention this year, and I am hopeful they will receive the recognition I believe is richly deserved for all of our talented collaborators, in front of and behind the camera. We look forward to being able to get back to the work we love,” he added.
The fund created by the city of Los Angeles will use the donation to help small businesses, relief for health professionals and support families impacted by the virus. To learn more about how you can help, visit their website.
