On Friday, January 3, 2025, HBO reportedly canceled The Franchise. The series debuted in October and ended its first eight-episode season in late November before learning its fate weeks later.
“We’re so grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the tremendously talented team behind The Franchise, especially Sam Mendes, Jon Brown, Armando Iannucci, and this hilarious ensemble of actors,” a spokesperson for HBO stated.
“While we won’t be moving forward with another season, we look forward to collaborating with all of them in the future.”
The Franchise is a scripted comedy series taking a behind-the-scenes look at the production of a high-profile superhero film. Created by Veep and Succession‘s Jon Brown, the series starred Himesh Patel, Aya Cash, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Hynes and Lolly Adefope.
“Teeming with superb actors having a ball playing hapless hacks, The Franchise pulls some of its punches against Hollywood malaise but overall makes for a tart treat,” the “Critics Consensus” on Rotten Tomatoes reads.
