HBO has elected to end their comedy-drama series, Ballers, after five seasons. Led by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, the series has told the stories of the fast and complicated lives of young athletes of color. Alongside Johnson, the series has given a spotlight to actors such as John David Washington and Omar Benson Miller.
In a lengthy Instagram caption and video, Johnson thanked the cast and HBO for its successful run on premium cable.
He wrote, “My heart is full of gratitude to all of you for rockin’ with us every season, You made us HBO’s highest rated comedy for years.”
He added, “Most importantly, you helped create and sustain a platform for other actors to have the opportunity work hard, grow and become household names.”
He concluded, “To me, the opportunity Ballers created for so many others, is the real gold of our show. I love you. I thank you and enjoy our final season of Ballers.”
Ending its run this year, Ballers joins a number of other shows to end or take a hiatus this year. Earlier this year, Game of Thrones aired its final season. Meanwhile, Insecure is on hiatus until further notice.
In the meantime, enjoy the final season of Ballers when it premieres this Sunday night.
