Hasan Minhaj has teamed up with Patriot Act showrunner Prashanth Venkataramanujam and Patriot Act writer Scott Vrooman to launch a new show called Hasan Minhaj Doesn’t Know. Similar to Minhaj’s popular Netflix series, the new show has kicked off with a more political focus. In the first episode, he spoke with Senator Elizabeth Warren “to better understand why our politicians are so old, learn how someone as smart as her operates in a place as stupid as American politics, and discuss the new IRS website, which allows people to file their taxes for free.”
“With the 2024 election just months away, the Dems are in big trouble and it’s prompted some tough questions from voters like ‘How old is too old to be President?’, ‘How dumb is too dumb to be a democracy?’ and ‘How the fuck are members of Congress still allowed to trade stock?’,” he said during the show’s opening.
Bridging the gap between politics and comedy is nothing new to Minhaj. In the past, he hosted Netflix’s Patriot Act and had a significant presence on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show. In fact, he was reportedly in the running to host the show, but former host Jon Stewart ultimately returned to the series.
“We’ve all failed in our lives,” Minhaj joked.
“But have you ever failed so bad, you bring back Jon Stewart?” I saved a dying institution. You’re welcome.”
Even in “failure,” he’s determined to bounce back better than ever. The first episode is available via YouTube. At this time, it’s unclear how many episode he’ll put out or how frequently he’ll release them.
