The presence of the successful R&B group may be fleeting, but it is far from dead. One of the trios looking to elevate the presence of R&B groups in today’s landscape is FLO. Hailing from the U.K., Renée, Stella and Jorja take the influences of Lauryn Hill, Jazmine Sullivan and others to build a blend of R&B, Hip-Hop, Pop and beyond that fit their joint vision. Together, they look to build a catalog that is here to last while maintaining their sisterhood.
“We have that sense of togetherness and friendship that girl groups need. It came to us authentically, so we’re really lucky,” Jorja told NME about their bond as they advance in the music industry.
This weekend, the trio has taken the next step in their journey. Renée, Stella and Jorja have delivered their first EP, The Lead. Led by the 90s-influenced “Cardboard Box” and hypnotic “Immature,” the concise offering showcases each of the singer’s strengths.
“Take the Spice Girls for example, it wasn’t just about the singing, you knew each of their personalities. As creatives, we really want to show who we are, too,” Jorja explained in a recent interview.
FLO is prepared to make some noise in the world of R&B this summer. Check out their first project below.
