
Cleveland Cavaliers rookie Evan Mobley will be sidelined for the next two to four weeks with a right elbow sprain, the team informed early on Tuesday. Following comes from the team’s press release:
Initial examination postgame and an MRI administered today at Cleveland Clinic Sports Health confirmed a right elbow sprain. Mobley will now undergo a period of treatment and rehabilitation and his return to play will be approximately 2-4 weeks. His status will be updated as appropriate.
Mobley got injured during the third quarter of Monday’s loss against the Boston Celtics. He left the floor with 1 point, 9 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 blocks in 29 minutes of playing time.
This injury piles up to other situations that had the Cavs playing with a nine-man rotation against the Celtics. Currently, Kevin Love and Lauri Markkanen are in health and safety protocols but should incorporate back with the team soon, Jarrett Allen was out due to illness, and Collin Sexton is still recovering from a torn meniscus.
With the two serious injuries to Sexton and Mobley, the Cavs will need to find a way to maintain their position in the fifth seed of the Eastern Conference.
As for the rookie forward, he was averaging 14.6 points 8 rebounds, with 1.6 blocks per game and leading in many rookie leaderboards for the Rookie of the Year Award.
