The San Francisco 49ers will be without running back Elijah Mitchell for six to eight weeks because of a knee injury. This will be the second stint he’s missed this season because of a knee injury and he is headed back to injured reserve. The team is hopeful he will be able to return if the team makes the 2022-23 NFL Playoffs. Mitchell was believed to suffer an MCL sprain in the team’s 13-0 Week Twelve win against the New Orleans Saints. That injury was confirmed Monday afternoon and announced by the team.
Kyle Shanahan told reporters that 49ers’ RB Elijah Mitchell is expected to miss 6-8 weeks with the knee injury he suffered Sunday.

This season with the San Francisco 49ers, Elijah Mitchell has 40 carries for 224 yards and zero touchdowns. He has also caught three passes for seven yards and zero touchdowns. Injuries have held the talented runner back this season more so than it has in the past. The hope was after the team traded for running back Christian McCaffery that the two could split the role some to prevent them from getting hurt.
That, unfortunately, did not happen this season for Mitchell, but he does have a chance to return if the team makes the 2022-23 NFL Playoffs. For now, he will be placed on injured reserve and focus on getting better. We here at Def Pen Sports wish Elijah Mitchell the best in his recovery and eventual return to the football field.
