Andrew Bynum and the Cleveland Cavaliers have landed in NBA news for several weeks now…although not for winning games. The Cavs recently traded Andrew Bynum to the Chicago Bulls in return for Luol Deng on Monday. Short after the trade, the Bulls waived Andrew Bynum the next day.
Just today, one day after he was released, Bynum has been contacted by eight teams and is expected to sign with a team in the next four to five days. The frontrunners to land Bynum include the Los Angeles Clippers, Miami Heat, and Dallas Mavericks according to sources. All eight teams have not been specified by the source, Bynum, or his agent.
The Clippers are in severe need of a solid backup center, as are the Miami Heat. Even the Mavericks are looking for a starting center that can supplement Dirk Nowitzki. The teams that have been counted out in terms of acquiring Bynum are the Brooklyn Nets and Atlanta Hawks. Both teams are without their starting centers for the entire season, so it is surprising to see them out of contention for Bynum. The Clippers will only be able to offer Bynum the veteran’s minimum, whereas, the Heat have their midlevel exception available.
Lookout for Bynum to jumpstart his NBA career by the end of the week.
