Despite being at the center of Hip-Hop’s most high-profile feud in recent memory, Drake has elected to remain active through leaked tracks, collaborations with Camilla Cabello and a surprise appearance on Gordo’s latest project. Now, he’s taking thing a step further, putting out his first EP since the battle began.
100 Gigs is a three-track EP featuring Young Thug, 21 Savage and Latto that highlights the Canadian artist’s versatility. “It’s Up” is a trap-heavy, speaker-busting track that feels reminiscent of past releases like “Knife Talk” from Certified Lover Boy and “Demons” from Dark Lane Demo Tapes. Meanwhile, “Housekeeping Knows” with Latto feels a lot like variant of For All The Dogs‘ “Rich Baby Daddy” featuring Sexyy Red and SZA.
Of the trio, “Blue Green Red” appears to be the fan favorite. The song’s fast-paced production paired with Drake’s signature dancehall-leaning melodies give the song an energy reminiscent of Views and More Life, but the track’s lyrics mentioning his Mom, Dad and current state of mind bring listeners back to 2011.
Recently, Hot 97’s Peter Rosenberg has talked about a potential Drake project with nothing but beats from Conductor Williams. Not to mention, he’s also announced a joint project with PARTYNEXTDOOR. If 100 Gigs is any indication of what’s to come, Drake plans to be extremely active over the next year.
