Unfortunately, all good things must come to an end.
On Friday, August 9, Watts, California’s own Kenyon Dixon released the final installment of his critically-acclaimed, GRAMMY-nominated series (“Lucky“), The R&B You Love. The final installment, The R&B You Love: For the ’99 and 2000s includes seven new tracks and a guest appearance from RL. As the EP’s title suggests, the project filled to the brim with 1990s and early 2000s R&B influences. Songs like “Run It Back” put a fresh spin on 112’s “Peaches & Cream” while “Good Love” pays homage to the incomparable Anita Baker. Through it all, the winding vocals and soulful stylings of Kenyon Dixon shine through, allowing each track to stand apart from their classic inspirations.
“This project is the final installment to The R&B You Love series. It’s my ode to the R&B that has inspired us all throughout the years,” Dixon said about the project, according to Keithan Samuels of Rated R&B.
“My main goal with everything related to this series was just to remind everybody that the feeling didn’t die. There is, still, and will always be a space for the R&B that we love.”
The release of The R&B You Love: For the ’99 and 2000s sets the stage for the Cape Town To Cairo Tour. Beginning July 31, Dixon will perform in support for PJ Morton. The duo plan to make stops in Detroit, Dallas, Chandler, Los Angeles, Sacramento, Vancouver Oakland and Seattle.
