Adidas ” officially announced Utah Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell, one of the top young stars in the NBA, is going to have his own signature shoe. The shoe is named “D.O.N. Issue #1″. The abbreviation”D.O.N.” means Determination Over Negativity and is also the first three letters from Mitchell’s name. The name also makes a reference to comic books with “Issue #1” as Mitchell’s nickname is “Spida” following the same theme of legendary Marvel comics superhero, ‘Spider-Man’
Adidas also contacted Mitchell’s high school, the Greenwich Country Day School, and selected two students with aspirations of becoming sports writers. The students met Mitchell and his family in New York City and they also had the opportunity of interviewing him.

At the interview, Mitchell was asked about the message he wants to share with his new shoe, the origin of his nickname and what makes his shoe different from the rest.
“My message with this shoe is that it’s for kids not only your age, but younger than you guys, older than you guys, just [for those who] believe that they can do anything. I want my story to be told as such. I want to help inspire kids so they feel like they can do anything.”
