Thibodeau was fired this past Sunday as Minnesota Timberwolves head coach and president of basketball operations following a 22-point win over the Lakers. Last year, he led the Timberwolves to a playoff appearance, snapping a 14-year playoff drought.
Rivers and Thibodeau have worked together previously when Thibodeau was Rivers’ top assistant with the Boston Celtics from 2007 to 2010 winning one championship together.
Rivers told reporters before practice on Monday that Thibodeau ‘will be around,’ according to Andrew Greif of the New York Times.
“Tom’s around even when he’s not. He watches every NBA game, so the one thing with Tom is he’s going to be working at home even without the job, that’s what he does. And he’s another guy who loves the game of basketball. And for me, I love people who love the game.”
Thibodeau spent three seasons as Minnesota’s head coach, finishing with an overall record of 97 wins and 107 losses.
