Waiters was recently traded from the Miami Heat to the Memphis Grizzlies in the Andre Iguodala deal. That move brought the “Waiters Island” era in Southbeach to an unceremonious end. Miami gave Waiters a big contract extension, only for him to not live up to it in any way. The ending was particularly messy, as the Heat suspended him three times including for an incident with an edible gummy on a team flight.
Memphis agreed to part ways with Dion waiters in early February, paying the $12 million still owed to him.
The Lakers have been searching for a competent scorer off the bench, someone who can find his own shot. They had been in on several buyout candidates but now have landed Waiters. LeBron James played with Dion Waiters for a handful of games in 2014 in his second stint in Cleveland. The Cavaliers shipped Waiters to Oklahoma City shortly thereafter. Now, the two will be reunited once again with championship aspirations on the horizon. Waiters has only appeared in three games this season and has not played more than 46 games since 2015-16.
