The Miami Heat have traded big man Dewayne Dedmon and a second-round pick to the San Antonio Spurs. With the 2022-23 NBA Trade Deadline fast approaching teams will continue to make adjustments to their roster for a number of reasons. The Heat are moving on from Dedmon who often did not crack their rotation this season. San Antonio is taking on his contract and acquiring more draft capital to do that. While the Spurs continue to rebuild, draft picks will be important for the team. Miami looks to adjust its roster as they prepare to make the 2023 NBA Playoffs.

This season in 30 games and 11.7 minutes per game with the Miami Heat, Dewayne Dedmon averaged 5.7 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 0.5 assists per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 49.6 percent and a three-point percentage of 29.7 percent. It is unclear right now if the Spurs will keep Dedmon on the roster or waive him once the trade is complete. The last trade the team completed resulted in them waiving the acquired player. Miami could also be freeing up a roster spot for another trade or to sign a player in the buyout market after the 2022-23 NBA Trade Deadline.
