New York Knicks head coach, Derek Fisher, says he’s optimistic about the Knicks upcoming offseason. Fisher says that he likes their chances in the free agency period during the summer and hopes they can reel in some big name talent.
Following from ESPN New York’s Ian Begley.
“There will be a ton of really really good players that, based on where they are in their careers, they would be interested in something that is being built from the ground up with some really successful people involved that have been able to build success in the past. We have some numbers going into free agency; we’ll be able to sign some really good players.” Fisher stated during a press conference on Monday.
Although the thought of playing in the big apple is enticing, who’s going to want to go and play for a team that currently has 12 wins? Do you think LaMarcus Aldridge would even consider leaving Portland for the calamity that is the Knicks? What about Marc Gasol leaving Memphis? Will Greg Monroe leave the Detroit Pistons, who’ve started the climb from their own rebuilding process, to start another? Whoever decides to come to New York will have to demand a hefty pay check. I mean can you blame them?
Another thing the New York Knicks have to watch out for is team chemistry. Can you have Carmelo Anthony, a star rookie and at least another big name guy sharing the spotlight in New York?
ESPN’s Ian Begley reports that the New York Knicks are projected to have a top five pick in the upcoming NBA rookie draft and the Knicks are projected to have a little more that $25 million dollars to spend in free agency. So they have the money to bring in more than one playmaker.
Will Phil Jackson be able to lure a big name talent to the Knicks or will the Knicks’ terrible season push away the type of talent the Knicks desperately need to turn things around?
I guess only time will tell.
