DeMar DeRozan will likely be one of the more sought-after free agents of the summer. The Toronto Raptors’ shooting guard will likely opt out of his contract to secure a long-term deal and take advantage of a rising salary cap. DeRozan will have plenty of suitors, from his hometown Lakers to the Brooklyn Nets. If you ask him, however, he wants to continue and finish his career with the Raptors.
The following via SportsNet:
“That’s one you thing you can never question: my loyalty to the city,” DeRozan told host Joey Vendetta on the Jeff Blair Show. “How much I really love and appreciate the team and the organization. I think all the fans understand that. A lot of times they don’t understand how contracts or things like that. But I’ve always stressed that this is where I want to be my whole career.”
DeRozan is certainly saying the right things, and it’s difficult to imagine the guard go anywhere else. The Raptors can give DeRozan the largest possible max contract as well as a solid chance of winning now. The team is among the best in the East and DeRozan would likely choose winning basketball as well as a high salary over any other options.
The Raptors seem intent on re-signing their star and the guard seems intent on finishing his career with the only NBA team he’s known.
