The Cleveland Cavaliers are in the middle of a tumultuous offseason. The team moved on from general manager David Griffin in controversial fashion. Kyrie Irving has requested a trade. And there are whispers that LeBron James will leave the Cavs again next summer as a free agent.
But that didn’t stop team owner Dan Gilbert from taking a shot at another franchise on Wednesday. As the team introduced new GM Koby Altman, Gilbert took the opportunity to criticize the Indiana Pacers for the return they received for Paul George.
The Cavs attempted to trade for George before he was moved to the Thunder. According to one report, a three team trade that would have sent George to Cleveland while Gary Harris and a first round pick went to Indiana was nearly complete before the Pacers pulled away at the last minute.
When taking that into account, it’s easy to see to see why Gilbert would be peeved and willing to take a politically incorrect shot.
On the other hand, those in glass houses should not cast stones and that’s exactly what Gilbert is doing. He has been criticized numerous times for how he’s run his organization ranging from his treatment of players to his turnstile of general managers and accusations of being a cheap owner.
Gilbert should probably focus on playing the cards he’s been dealt rather than looking over his opponents’ shoulders.
