The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are hiring Boston Celtics assistant coach Damon Stoudamire as the program’s next Head Coach. Stoudamire is a former NBA player and was the Head Coach of the Pacific Tigers from the 2016-17 college basketball season to the 2020-21 season. Since then he has served as the assistant coach for the Boston Celtics in the NBA. Stoudamire played in the NBA from the 1995-96 NBA season to the 2007-08 season. This college basketball offseason the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets fired Head Coach Josh Pastner and quickly moved to hire Stoudamire to replace him.

As the Head Coach of the Pacific Tigers, Damon Stoudamire led the program to an overall record of 71-77 with a West Coast Conference record of 34-47. As the Head Coach of Georgia Tech, he will have access to more resources with a bigger program and budget. He has also reconnected to the NBA and has built more connections since his playing career. Georgia Tech makes this hire in the hopes they can build a more consistent winner in the ACC after Josh Pastner failed to build on his success.
The Boston Celtics lose an assistant coach in a season where they hope to win an NBA Championship. Damon Stoudamire brings plenty of experience and knowledge to the table and should be a good addition to the Georgia Tech program in the next few seasons.
