The Miami Heat have signed former Portland Trail Blazers big man Cody Zeller for the rest of the 2022-23 NBA season. He had been unsigned for the season, but the Heat needed more depth in the paint after trading away center Dewayne Dedmon to the San Antonio Spurs. Miami also signed big man Kevin Love for the rest of the season after he reached a buyout agreement with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Zeller will provide the depth the team needs in case a player goes down with an injury for any period of time this season.

Last season in 27 games with the Portland Trail Blazers, Cody Zeller averaged 5.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game. He paired those numbers with a field goal percentage of 56.7 percent and a free throw percentage of 77.6 percent. Zeller is a former lottery pick that is a solid rebounder and can score around the rim. His role with Miami this season may not be very large, but he will be an experienced and valuable player for depth on the team. He can make the most of his role and try to play his way onto another roster or return to Miami next season once he hits free agency this offseason.
