Coco Jones is officially a GRAMMY Award winner. The 26-year-old multi-talented artist won the Best R&B Performance category for her delivery of “ICU.” The singer’s breakout track bested a number of critically acclaimed tracks, including “Kill Bill” by SZA and “How Does It Make You Feel” by Victoria Monet.
“I’m really trying to keep it together. I think I’m just reflecting on everything that got me here. And it makes me emotional,” Jones said as she walked the red carpet.
“I just want to continue to inspire the girls who look like me to just keep pursuing because all of this wouldn’t have happened if I gave up and I’m just grateful I did not.”
Coco Jones was not only nominated in the Best R&B Performance category. She was also recognized in the race for Best R&B Album and Best Traditional R&B Performance. At the televised ceremony, Jones will also be highlighted as a nominee in the Best New Artist and Best R&B Song categories.
The Bel-Air star’s victory adds to a growing celebration of Black female vocalists during the 66th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Victoria Monet has won the Best R&B Album category for her standout LP, Jaguar II. Meanwhile, SZA’s S.O.S snagged the award for Best Progressive R&B Album. The trio will go head-to-head in the Best R&B Song race as “Snooze” by SZA, “How Does It Make You Feel” by Victoria Monet and “ICU” by Coco Jones will all vie for the award.
