Number one overall pick Jameis Winston has done a great job impressing his new teammates and coaches so far. Winston has had some off the field issues in the past but everything has been so far, so good for the rookie quarterback. Head coach Lovie Smith has really been enjoying what he’s seen from his franchise signal caller.
“He’s cramming like it’s the final exam right now and doing a good job,” Smith said. “We’ve seen marked improvement from the moment we gave him his playbook.”
Offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter later added to that statement.
“Arm strength and all of that stuff, you can see that on tape,” Koetter said, per the Tampa Bay Times. “You cant always see how a guy (processes information). But Jameis can process, and that’s reassuring, because that’s an important thing.”
Winston has been impressive all week building a real rapport with roommate and 5th round selection Kenny Bell. Bell even called Winston “the best roommate” he’s ever had.
“It’s been phenomenal,” Bell said on WDAE-AM 620. “We’ve been going from about 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., and then we get back to the hotel and he wants to study more. He’s dedicated to his job, that’s for sure.”
Winston is definitely a student of the game and one of the more knowledgeable draft prospects to come out in awhile, but the biggest question is can he stay out of trouble?
