The city of Indio, California has issued a $117,000 fine to Goldenvoice, the company behind Coachella. According to a report from TMZ, the fine stems from alleged curfew violations. Goldenvoice has reportedly set up an agreement with the city that allows Coachella to run until 1 a.m. PDT on Friday and Saturday and 12 a.m. PDT on Sunday. If the festival runs past those set times, the city can hand the festival a fine of $20,000 for the first five minutes and $1,000 for each additional minute.
Goldenvoice has not issued a statement regarding the fine. However, Frank Ocean, who performed during the first weekend of the festival, did acknowledge that a curfew had been put in place. After showing up approximately one hour late, the singer cut his set as fans sang along.
“Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show,” he said.
The money taken from those fines are reportedly used for public funds, including the fire department and other public services. The city’s agreement with Goldenvoice is reportedly set to last until 2050.
