As impeachment hearings began in earnest this week, FX is gearing up to begin their own. According to Deadline, Clive Owen has been cast as President Bill Clinton in Impeachment: American Crime Story, the next season of FX’s wildly successful anthology series.
Based on the real-life scandal that engulfed Clinton’s presidency, Impeachment: American Crime Story is being produced in part by Monica Lewinsky, one of the women at the center of the scandal back in 1998. Owen joins an already stacked cast that features Beanie Feldstein as Lewinsky and Sarah Paulson as Linda Tripp. Annaleigh Ashford is also attached to play Paula Jones while the role of Hilary Clinton has yet to be filled.
When the newest season was announced earlier this year, FX CEO John Landgraf expressed his excitement. “Impeachment: American Crime Story will likewise explore the overlooked dimensions of the women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton presidency.”
Owen most recently appeared as one of the best parts of Ang Lee’s Gemini Man. Before that, he earned an Oscar nomination and Golden Globe win for his supporting role in Closer. He also starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s dystopian sci-fi thriller Children of Men.
Impeachment: American Crime Story is currently set to premiere on Sunday, September 27th, 2020. But, due to shifting production schedules, that could change.
