The Browns have been the laughing stock of the NFL for as long as I can remember. As lame as it sounds, signing a good linebacker is a step in the right direction. NFL.com reported that the Browns will be locking up an extension with Jamie Collins by the end of the weekend. While they have been a dumpster fire at quarterback, keeping their good players is what you have to do to become attractive.
Jamie Collins was with the New England Patriots, but it was expected that he was to ask for a major contract after this season. The Pats have been known to just dump a player like Collins if they believe he isn’t as valuable to them. It was also reported by Mike Cole at NESN that Collins clashed with coaches in New England before he was traded. This is one of the trades that we all just passed off as the Pats always know what they are doing. Since they are in the AFC Championship game this weekend, they would say they are in a good place. Yet they might have the hardest tests ahead of them. Time will tell if they will miss the star linebacker after facing Pittsburgh’s decorated offense on Sunday.
Collins is a young player and has fit in well with the Browns after being sent to Cleveland halfway through the year. The 2nd rounder will be a part of the building process that Cleveland fans are hoping is actually beginning. Maybe the Browns end up winning the trade, after all, ESPN said that Collins is a top 5 free agent for 2017.
