
Another title fight has been added to the boxing calendar. Boxing Scene has reported that Chris Colbert will fight Roger Gutierrez on February 26, 2022 for the WBA junior lightweight title. The fight is scheduled to take place at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gutierrez-Colbert is expected to headline a triple header on Showtime. The junior lightweight title fight will be accompanied by an IBF junior bantamweight championship fight featuring Jerwin Ancajas and ernando Daniel Martinez. The televised event will also include a fight between Gary Antuanne Russell and Viktor Postol.
Colbert is a Brooklyn, New York native who enters the fight with a record of 16 wins and zero losses. He previously won the interim WBA Junior Lightweight Championship in January 2020. After defeating Jezzrel Corrales and winning the interim title, he defended it twice. However, he was stripped of his belt when the World Boxing Association all interim titles late last year.
Colbert’s opponent, Roger Gutierrez, enters the fight as the reigning WBA Junior Lightweight Champion. He won the title in January 2021 by defeating Rene Alvarado. He then retained the title in August 2021 by defeating Alvarado in a rematch.
