Doug Feinberg of the Associated Press has reported that Cheryl Reeve will succeed Dawn Staley as the next head coach of Team USA’s women’s basketball team.
Reeve served as an assistant coach for Team USA’s women’s basketball team at the last two Summer Olympic Games. She also worked alongside Geno Auriemma and Dawn Staley at the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cups in 2014 and 2018. Moving forward, she will take over for Staley at the 2022 FIBA World Cup and the 2024 Summer Olympic Games.
Aside from her work with Team USA, Reeve will continue to coach the Minnesota Lynx of the WNBA. Working with the team since 2010, Reeve and the Lynx have won league titles in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017. She also led the Lynx to the WNBA Finals in 2012 and 2016. Prior to her time with the Lynx, she also won two titles as an assistant coach with the Detroit Shock.
Reeve will kickstart her tenure as the team’s head coach next September in Sydney, Australia.
