Jermell Charlo and Brian Castaño entered the ring at AT&T Center on July 17 with the hopes of becoming the first undisputed super welterweight champion of the four-belt era. Unfortunately, both fighters walked away from the AT&T Center without achieving their goal. In an action-packed bout, Charlo and Castaño fought to a split draw that featured scores of 117-111 for Charlo, 114-113 for Castaño and 114-114 all.
As expected, both fighters felt that they had done enough to win the fight. Fortunately, both fighters are hopeful that a rematch can take place in the future.
“The draw wasn’t what I wanted to hear. I thought I won this fight. Brian Castano is a tough warrior,” Charlo told Jim Gray in a post-fight interview.
“I won the fight definitely. I hope there’s a rematch. He’s a great fighter. I want the rematch,” Castaño said moments later.
The table is set for a rematch at the end of the year, but promoters, mandatory challengers and much more could stand in the way.
And it’s a split decision draw… how about round 13? #CharloCastano pic.twitter.com/i4w8eJtfGQ
