Chad Johnson has never been one to shy away from obscure challenges. He’s challenged a horse to a race, battled professional gamers online and learned how to play hockey alongside Terrell Owens. Now, he’s taking up yet another challenge.
Iconic wide receiver Chad Johnson has revealed that he is negotiating a deal to compete against former UFC champion Vitor Belfort in a boxing match. The Florida native shared the news during a recent appearance on I Am Athlete with Brandon Marshall, Channing Crowder, Fred Taylor and special guest Adam Jones.
“Tell him who I’m fighting,” Johnson told Marshall after Jones challenged him to a boxing match.
“Triller. Vitor Belfort,” Marshall said as Jones and Johnson had a friendly back and forth.
Details aren’t set in stone and negotiations are still going, but it does appear to be something that Johnson has his mind set on.
The former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver made his amateur boxing debut earlier this year against Brian Maxwell in Miami, Florida. Many felt that Johnson won the fight on points, but he did suffer a knockdown towards the end of the fight.
Belfort also recently made his boxing debut. He was able to stop 59-year old Evander Holyfield in the first round of a fight many felt should have never happened. Nevertheless, Belfort is 1-0 as a professional boxer and hopes to fight again in the future.
