The Washington Commanders have traded for Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz in a package centered around draft picks. Washington will take on the full $28 million owed to Wentz including a five million dollar roster bonus that is due next week. The former Philadelphia Eagles franchise quarterback is now back in the NFC East and on his third team in just three years. This trade will likely be centered around two third-round picks going from Washington to Indianapolis.

The Washington Commanders have a new name and now add a new quarterback to compliment the new look. This franchise has made it clear that they view this roster as a quarterback shy of seriously contending in shaky NFC East. Carson Wentz has shown talent and potential, but with his massive contract and injury-prone history, he is a massive question mark on the field. If he can stay healthy then it may work out for Washington, and if not they can always move on with the price tag being fairly low in the trade.

Commanders get: QB Carson Wentz.#Colts get: This year’s third rounder and next year’s third rounder that can convert to a 2nd based on last year’s incentives.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) March 9, 2022
The quarterback rooms for several NFL teams will look very different next year. Washington will clearly hope to start Carson Wentz, but the Colts’ future plans are currently unclear. It is possible that their starter next year is not currently on the roster. There is still plenty of time between now and then for things to change in Indianapolis.
