Former Baltimore Ravens pass rusher Calais Campbell has signed a one-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons. The deal will pay the veteran pass rusher a base salary of seven million dollars that can reach nine million dollars with incentives. Campbell had several teams interested in him but ultimately signed with the defense-needy Falcons. The franchise has some young defensive players that need a mentor and also a serious need for a veteran pass rusher on the field. This move could help the Falcons field a more competitive defense next season.

This past season with the Baltimore Ravens, Calais Campbell recorded 18 solo tackles, 36 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and two passes defended. After the Baltimore Ravens released the veteran pass rusher, he made it clear he still wanted to play football next season. Teams were interested and it was clear that he still had a place in the NFL. The Falcons are in the middle of a rebuild and are hoping that Campbell can produce on the field and be a mentor for the talented, but young members of the defense. With the NFC South wide open, Atlanta could find a way to compete next season.
