DeSean Jackson was slated to be one of the top wideouts in the free agency market. The former Pro Bowl pass catcher has seen his numbers fall since his glory days with the Philadelphia Eagles and early days with the Washington Redskins but he still is a difference maker in the right situation. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might be the right place for that.
The Buccaneers and Jackson reportedly are finalizing a deal to lock him up down south for what might be the last leg of his career.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the following about Jackson and the Bucs.
DeSean Jackson recently was confused by a Washington Redskins Instagram post. The graphic that the team posted included Josh Norman, Trent Williams, Kirk Cousins, Jordan Reed and Ryan Kerrigan. One notable thing though, Kirk Cousins, at the time, was a free agent. So you can understand why Jackson might have moved on. The writing was on the wall. Washington will now lose their top two wide receivers after Pierre Garcon departed for the San Fransisco 49ers.
The 30-year-old Jackson is a former second-round pick of the Eagles back in 2008. He spent six years with the Eagles before signing a three-year, $24 million contract with the Redskins back in 2014.
In 2016, Jackson appeared in 14 games for the Redskins and caught 56 passes for 1005 receiving yard and hauled in four touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 36 receiver out of 115 qualifying players at his position.
