With the Rams trading up for the first overall selection a couple of days ago the top of the draft has now been entirely different. So far indications suggest the Rams will select California signal caller Jared Goff but there are still talks about taking Carson Wentz as well.
As for the Eagles they will get the quarterback the Rams do not choose. All indications appear that man will be North Dakota State quarterback Carson Wentz. I recently discussed the Goff vs. Wentz discussion at length. General Manager Howie Roseman should be given a lot of credit as he has managed to move up from 13 to 8 to now 2. His previous trade with Miami allowed him to swap picks with the Dolphins in the Byron Maxwell salary dump. If Carson Wentz is the franchise quarterback they project the Eagles are big winners considering their original draft pick.
In terms of what they Browns had to be thinking is that Los Angeles was going to pick the quarterback they had their eyes on. Considering the Browns head coach was almost the head coach of Cal and assistant coach Pep Hamilton had a close up view of his days coaching at Stanford makes me believe Cleveland wanted Goff. Since Cleveland’s had not fallen in love with Wentz they decided to move down. Let’s not forget they could be primed to select quarterback Paxton Lynch 8th overall who may end up being the best of the group when it’s all said and done. Cleveland gets a hefty package just to move down 6 slots including a first rounder next season.
