North Carolina Tar Heels senior running back British Brooks will miss the 2022 college football season with a lower-body injury. He was projected to be the starter this season after sitting behind current NFL running backs Javonte Williams, Michael Carter, and Ty Chandler. There is not yet any indication of what Brooks plans to do next season. With a good season this year, he was expected to enter the 2023 NFL Draft. He should have one year left of eligibility if he applies for a medical redshirt this season, but this was his COVID year of eligibility.

Last season with the North Carolina Tar Heels, British Brooks rushed 31 times for 295 yards and four touchdowns. He has not been used to catch passes in his four seasons with the Tar Heels. The Gastonia, North Carolina native has spent his entire career on this roster waiting for his moment to shine and this is a devastating blow to that dream. While the future is uncertain, Brooks will be prepared for the next step after he recovers.
The season-ending injury to British Brooks opens the door further for stud #UNC freshmen Omarion Hampton & George Pettaway for more carries early in the season.
Elijah Green, DJ Jones & Caleb Hood will also compete for reps.
Big loss for Carolina, leadership & veteran presence

The Tar Heels have several guys listed behind British Brooks and it is unclear who will step up as the primary running back this season. It is possible the team decides to go with a running back by committee design with their veteran starter out for the year. We here at Def Pen Sports wish Brooks the best in his recovery.
