Brian Brown’s refreshed look at Drake’s “Rich Baby Daddy” brings the world to a skating rink in Nashville on Friday the 13th. What was a typical night out in the Music City turned into a chance encounter with a woman rocking a ponytail, some Air Force 1s and halter top. Before he could get through the first 16 bars, Brian Brown was thinking about “giving baby [his] son” and really becoming a “Rich Baby Daddy.”
“All of a sudden, the lights got low. Everybody froze, but not us though. My hands [were] on [her] hips. You know the rest,” he raps over the Florence + the Machine-sampled production.
“I can’t really skate, but she’s impressed. [We’re] gliding like Clyde Drexler and we’re off elixirs. Both of us [are] feeling a way. God damn, what a mixer.”
Brian Brown’s “Rich Baby Daddy” arrives as he prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his debut EP, 7:22. The Nashville native is set to perform the entire EP at Basement East on Tuesday, February 27 alongside A.G. Sully and Chuck Indigo.
“I want to move forward through my career and highlight songs that were either inspired by or maybe even better versions of what’s on 7:22,” he told Nashville Scene‘s Brittney McKenna.
“Taking those songs and being like, ‘This is how I was feeling. This is what it was.’ And it led to me making songs such as [2018 single] ‘The Dreamer’s Anthem,’ or ‘Runnin’’ from Journey.”
