Filling cars up with popcorn and making rookies carry toddler-esque backpacks are just a few jokes that happen in the NBA, and sports in general. Stealing a car is perhaps a little more on the extreme side, but that is exactly what Los Angeles Clippers assistant coach and now former Clippers center Marcin Gortat did. And not just to anyone, they did it to behemoth center Boban Marjanovic.
On the Hoop Collective Podcast, host Brian Windhorst says that Marcin Gortat told him a story of how he and Cassell stole the keys to Boban’s car and did donuts in the parking lot. Apparently, Boban purchased a Lamborghini SUV (which I did not even know existed) and refrained from letting teammates drive it. Windhorst says the other Clippers players had never seen one (phew, I am not alone) and really wanted to drive it. Well, Gortat succeeded.
“Marcin Gortat went in and stole the keys from his (Boban’s) locker. He and Sam Cassell went out to the parking lot and tried to take it for a joy ride but couldn’t figure out how to get it in gear. Finally, they got it and they started doing it and they started doing donuts. I don’t know who was at the wheel, Cassell or Gortat, they were doing donuts in the parking lot in a Lamborghini SUV while Boban was getting a massage.”
I really cannot imagine doing anything to hurt, harm, or offend the gentle giant that is Boban Marjanovic, but this was in good fun. Gortat was traded from the Wizards to the Clippers this season, so really we need to thank Washington for even making this story possible. The full story starts around the 37:00 minute mark of the podcast.
If you need me, I will be looking up SUV Lamborghinis.
